Work is a 4-letter word

Well I am in week 5 of my teaching year. How crazy have those last 5 weeks been? OMG! New students - sigh. They keep on getting younger and younger. I am of the belief that teenaged boys are a different species of near- human. They seem to resemble humans in many ways, yet in other ways ... no. My time has also been spent at professional development training so I can learn to deal better with near- humans. I have actually enjoyed that. Big news event: I at last have the house to myself . The l… Continue

If we save it now, can we spend it later?

Dear daylight saving,

I am over you.

Seriously.

No love,

Sweeney Todd

How brilliant is Johnny Depp? I mean exactly how brilliant is he, hmmmmm? Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber is a triumph. I can't remember a time when I enjoyed a theatre experience so much. And my Alan was fantastic. He is, as you know, my celluloid hero and he was just perfect. The highlight for me? Depp and Rickman singing a duet. OMG. I would so love to see Rickman on stage...

Go see Sweeney Todd. Be warned: It is not for the squeamish; there is a lot of blood. And pie eating.… Continue

I hate words sometimes

I certainly do but I got over my hatred enough to finish my mammoth essay that was so overdue it's not even funny and now I feel FREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

So I have been enjoying a mammoth run of Grey's Anatomy. Meredith Grey annoys me but George is cute. Went to the gym and now I can't move. I always said exercise was bad for you.

Oh and I saw my name in the New York Times this week. That was an interesting experience.

One week of holidays left then back to the grindstone. I… Continue

Reasons to be cheerful. 1,2,3.

  1. I am not dead
  2. I am not completely broke
  3. I have completed 2000 of the 6000 words for my horrendously overdue essay for uni.

Alan Rickman on my chest

It's a dream come true for one so ancient as I. I have a Severus Snape tshirt folks. Yes that's right. I have the brooding snarky bastard emblazoned on my chest. My daughter helpfully informs me that it looks like Severus has breasts because my bumps appear right where his chest is. This fazes me not. I may just hang the tshirt up… Continue

~2070 and Sydney will be (even more) uninhabitable...

... due to climate change and an increase of nine degrees in average temperature, the boffins warn us. (One fact obviously eludes them: Sydney is uninhabitable now, so what's all the fuss? I mean it is a nasty place to live. No offense to Sydneyites. I just don't like the place. I admit that shopping is good there but I seriously prefer Melbourne Ah, Chapel St *sigh*.) *Waves to Merri*

It is a tragedy that we are generally and it seems inevitably, leading up to the point where a… Continue

Oh noes!! I has got the holiday woes so I feel justified in rambling

Yeah well it had to happen. I am bored. I can hear my mother in my head. She used to say (and still does) useful things like 'read a book', or ' go for a walk', or 'polish the cat'. This last one used to bother me. We never owned a cat. We always had a dog. I dunno...

I am also bothered about big problems that I can't solve and small problems that I can solve but seem not to be solving. I worry about money, sex (chiefly the lack of), power ( I dont' have any o' that either, mate), relig… Continue

Christmas Day in Perth

Well, for those of you freezing your bits off in the Northern nether regions, I would like you to know that it was 41 degrees Celcius here in Perth today. Clearly, this is not funny. Send snow.

It is going to be 41 again tomorrow.

I may spend the day in the freezer .
